Verena Volger
For Verena, born in 1981 in Tyrol, the animal world was the focus of her interests and her greatest passion from an early age.
During her biology studies, Verena initially worked as a volunteer at the Mentlberg animal shelter run by the Tyrol Animal Welfare Association, which was to have a significant impact on her life over the next 15 years: After a short time, she began working full-time in the small animal department before taking over management of the cat department a year later. She dreamed of setting up a wild animal department for a long time before she was given the management of the animal shelter at the age of around 30 and this dream came true for Verena.
Under her leadership, the wildlife department was set up, where in the following years many orphaned or injured birds, martens, hedgehogs, bats, foxes, etc. were taken in, nursed back to health and released back into the wild.
Verena has raised countless wild animals and orphaned kittens by hand and has spent many sleepless nights doing so. She was also responsible for the 24-hour emergency hotline of the Tyrol Animal Welfare Association for a long time and has been able to help a large number of animals out of their emergency situations during dozens of outdoor missions, mostly at night, but has also experienced plenty of strange things.
Verena found great fulfillment in working directly with animals, which is why she eventually gave up her biology studies. At the same time, she completed training as an animal keeper in Vienna and over time she was given the management of the Tyrol Animal Welfare Association as well as managing the animal shelter.
Due to internal "club nonsense", Verena decided with a heavy heart to leave the animal welfare association for Tyrol in 2019. After working for a few months at a "sanctuary" for dogs in Germany, she settled back in Tyrol and has been working as a veterinary assistant ever since.
In her private life she lives with her boyfriend, a dog and two cats from an animal shelter and dreams of having her own animal sanctuary.
