Kondoros
In the small village of Kondoros in southeastern Hungary, a small private animal shelter was established around 10 years ago by Klari and Eva, two women in their 60s with a big heart for animals.
Eva and Klari had been committed to helping animals in need in their region for a long time when they decided about 10 years ago to convert an old farm into a refuge for animals in need.
With the simplest of means, a lot of love and hard work, the small Kondoros animal shelter was created, which can accommodate a total of around 60 dogs. The dogs are looked after by Edit and Attila, who live in the simplest of conditions in the animal shelter building and look after the four-legged friends around the clock with great dedication .
In Klari’s garden, the Kondoros animal shelter’s cat shelter was set up as an “outpost”, where around 55 cats can be accommodated.
In addition to the cats, Eva and Klari also take care of street animals in the region on a daily basis - they set up feeding stations for them, have them neutered where financially possible, provide medical treatment for sick or injured animals, and take in animals in need of help at the animal shelter.
There in eastern Hungary, just before the Romanian border, animal protection is unfortunately still a foreign concept for many people. Many animals are abandoned, mistreated, tortured, neglected, given to killing stations or kept on chains.
Every animal in the Kondoros animal shelter has its own story and most of the animals have one thing in common - a bad past . The team on site fights for its charges every day with its modest means and tries to make the world a little bit better for these animals and change their future for the better .
After successful rehabilitation, a loving, permanent home is sought for many four-legged friends from the Kondoros animal shelter. Unfortunately, some animals are so severely traumatized that adoption seems impossible - but the team at Kondoros never gives up hope for these animals either, and strives day after day, year after year, to help these animals regain their trust in humans.
Since there are (virtually) no adopters for the shelter animals in Hungary itself, most of the dogs and cats in the Kondoros animal shelter have to rely on being adopted from other European countries . And since it is of course not always easy to make individual animals "visible" among countless others of their kind, there are unfortunately many dogs and cats in the Kondoros animal shelter that - although they are lovable, people-oriented, have normal behavior, are fit and agile - have been waiting in the shelter for years to be adopted.
Since Klari, Eva, Edit and Attila never have the heart to refuse to help an animal in need, the Kondoros animal shelter is naturally always full and funds are tight. Since the Kondoros animal shelter receives no state support, it is entirely dependent on donations.
We support the Kondoros animal shelter by regularly delivering donations in kind, covering costs as needed (for food, veterinarian, staff, shelter maintenance, etc.) , carrying out projects on site for the castration and basic medical care of stray animals and helping to find new homes for the animals .
You can support us by providing donations in kind as well as general or specific monetary donations, or by sponsoring an animal from the Kondoros animal shelter (see Animal Sponsorships ).
