Johanna Neumeyer, Dr.iur.
Johanna was born in Tyrol in 1984 and works as a lawyer in a law firm in Schwaz. Since childhood, animals have been her greatest passion and a better and fairer world for animals has been her greatest concern.
After studying law at the University of Innsbruck, she decided to specialize in the field of animal protection law and in her extensive dissertation ( Animal Law published by Jan Sramek Verlag), for which she received two awards from the University of Innsbruck, she dealt in detail on over 700 pages with the legal requirements for dealing with animals, their legal status and the existing animal ethics theories.
In addition to constitutional aspects, she critically examined civil and criminal law, relevant administrative laws (animal protection, animal transport, animal testing, hunting laws), EU law and existing case law and, on the basis of the animal ethics theories discussed, demonstrated the need for a fundamental paradigm shift in our treatment of animals.
Within the framework of legal opinions on the various laws relating to the use of animals, Johanna attempts to demonstrate the comprehensive need for legal reform of the existing animal protection regulations (most recently, for example, in the area of animal testing ) and thus to hold politicians accountable.
She has been volunteering for the Tyrol Animal Welfare Association for 14 years, was on the association's committee for several years and helps out in the cat department of the animal shelter. In her private life, she and her husband live with 7 former stray cats, most of which crossed their path while traveling abroad, needing help or injured, and which ultimately found their way to Tyrol.
